Sjoerd: Which country did you represent and what committee were you assigned to?
Rahim: I was the delegate of Iran in the Special Conference on modern world technology.
Sjoerd: What were your expectations of LEMUN?
Rahim: I thought it would be very formal and a replica of the United Nations. It was my first time to participate in a Model United Nations event, so I was a bit nervous.
Sjoerd: What was your first impression upon arrival?
Rahim: Well, the building was very big and had an authentic feel to it. The hallway was decorated with the flags of all member states of the United Nations. Everyone was dressed formally in suit or in a dress.
Sjoerd: When the debate started, what was your first impression?
Rahim: It was very well organised and everyone was prepared.
Sjoerd: Could you follow everything that was said?
Rahim: In the beginning I didn’t have a clue what was going on, but I asked the other delegates, who were nice enough to explain it to me. As the debate continued, I eventually got the concept.
Sjoerd: How was lunch?
Rahim: The lunch was very good! The catering was excellent. There were donuts, muffins, soup and a variety of sandwiches. I mostly had salmon sandwiches and donuts J.
Sjoerd: Were there funny moments as well? If so, can you give an example?
Rahim: Indeed, there were a lot of funny moments. For example, if delegates arrived late at the conference room, they had to sing a song. We all sang “Paparazzi” and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”. There was also one delegate that constantly fell asleep, because he had a hangover from the party.
Sjoerd: What was the funniest moment you remember?
Rahim: We played a lot of games between the debating. We actually had a debate about the issue “zombies in our society”. We also played charades with the whole committee! And of course, there was the singing.
Sjoerd: What was your general opinion of the event?
Rahim: I think it was very nice, because you learn the procedures of how the United Nations debate issues. Also, you meet a lot of peers and make friendships during the whole event. All in all, it was an awesome experience.
